Covid-19 Preparing for Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) Claim
Following on from the previous details provided on the support for self-employed during Covid-19 there are steps Self-Employed individuals should be taking now prior to the scheme opening on 13th May 2020, especially if HMRC have not already been in contact to advise if you are eligible.
- Check if you are eligible to make a claim by entering your UTR and National Insurance number into HMRC’s online tool; https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/self-employment-support
- If you’ve been told you are not eligible to make a claim, you can ask HMRC to review this after you’ve used their online tool.
- Confirm the date you can make the claim from, as advised by HMRC when notified you are eligible. While the scheme will open from 13th May 2020, HMRC are staggering the dates which individuals can make a claim.
- Ensure you have valid Government Gateway log-in details so that you are ready to go when the scheme opens.
- Have to hand the sort-code and account number for the bank account you wish the Grant to be paid.
HMRC have now announced that the Self-Employed must process claims themselves and cannot use their accountant/tax agent to process the claim via their Agent Government Gateway account. Therefore, if you do not already have a Government Gateway User ID and password you will need to create an Account in advance of your claim date https://www.gov.uk/log-in-register-hmrc-online-services/register
