Coronavirus Update from FPM – 21 March 2020

FPM aim to keep in touch with clients by providing continual updates of the support measures available to businesses operating across the Island of Ireland in these unprecedented times arising from COVID-19. It is acknowledged that this is an extremely fluid and changing environment and as a result of this, we will defer a detailed update until 5pm on Monday 23rd March as we believe there will be further clarifications and announcements in the intervening period. Our previous Coronavirus Updates are available for downloading.

We are here to support the business community through the COVID 19 pandemic and will endeavour to bring you the information needed to help sustain your business.

Northern Ireland

For businesses based in Northern Ireland, the new information highlights are as follows:

  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will cover up to 80% of furloughed workers’ wages costs up to a gross wage of £2500 per employee per month for an initial period of 3 months to be reviewed thereafter
  • Deferment of VAT Payments for a 3-month period from 20 March to 30 June 2020.
  • Extension of the interest free period element of the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme to 12 months (Loans of up to £5m available with 80% Government Guarantee)

These are in addition to the rates relief, statutory sick pay concessions and cash grants announced previously.

Ireland

For businesses based in Ireland, we would refer to our previous briefing on the 17 March 2020 for current supports available.  However Minister of Finance Pascal Donohue stated on Friday that the current €203 employee support packages to retain staff in employment was not sufficient and that the government was looking at providing further support packages for employees and businesses.  We understand that these could be aligned to the level of support offered by the UK government.

We aim to provide an update on these as soon as the Minister announces these over the next number of hours and days

We’re in this together!

We are here to support the business community through the COVID 19 pandemic and will endeavour to bring you the information needed to help sustain your business.

If you require any further information on any aspect of the UK Government, NI Executive and Republic of Ireland COVID-19 related financial support packages for businesses, please do not hesitate to contact us via telephone or e-mail via your normal FPM contacts.

Keep safe, take care of yourselves, your family and work colleagues in the current very challenging circumstances.
